Two Million Dollar Drug Bust - Biggest Ever In Wayne County

A traffic stop turned into a huge drug bust in Wayne County this week.

Lawmen from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office tell WITN they stopped a car on Highway 55 West in Mt. Olive around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office says the two men in the car appeared very nervous, prompting lawmen to ask to search the vehicle.

During that process, officials say they found 14 kilos (roughly 30 pounds) of cocaine in a non-factory hidden compartment with a motorized door under the back seat.

Eduardo Alamanza, age 35 of Trenton, and Sergio Reyna, age 20 of Trenton, are both being held on million-dollar bonds.

The street value of the cocaine is estimated at more than $2 million.

"You never know what you are going to get from a speeding motorist." said Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders. "These two officers have received numerous hours of highway interdiction training and are simply good at what they do. This is the largest single seizure of cocaine in the history of the Wayne County Sheriffs Office. The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team was established in 1996. It has enhanced our drug fighting capability on the highways."
