The reason why the tempo was faster was because of the time. At the time, faster, more shred-like styles of music were preferred, so KISS sped up a lot of their songs. If you watch any version of this song in 1980, 1988, or 1990, it's significantly slower (but still faster than Peter Criss and Eric Singer).
