  • That was Bob "Super Dave Osbourne" Einstein as the producer. He used to do the "Super Dave" character on comedian John Byners show "Bizarre" way back when, which eventually led to the character taking off on his own. And that was Carl Reiner with Van-Dyke. Reiner created The Dick Van-Dyke Show and played the boss of Van-Dyke's character on that show as well. Just a few trivial(But interesting) connections in the weird world of Andy Kaufman.

  • I thought that sounded like Super Dave.

  • Someone ought to put some of these shows on DVD. After Van Dyke and Company got cancelled, Dick replaced Harvey Korman on The Carol Burnett Show. It didn't work so well. He had trouble adjusting to the pace. Also, the writers didn't know what to do with him. Too bad this show had such a short run. Ditto for Andy Kaufman.

  • @antoniod Of course it is. Its BIG business not an off, off broadway play. The variety show was much more fun than the serial formulas of today.

Besides some of it was a direct copy of BBC shows; All In The Family, Three's Company. There must be others I don't remember.

-Chico and the Man -BJ & the Bear -The 6 Million Dollar Man -Charlies Angels -Happy Days -Laverne & Shirley -Donnie & Marie -The Incredible Hulk -Barney Miller -WKRP

  • @antoniod I disagree. Variety shows allowed more artistic freedom in the form of the short skit. Also TV was trying to break boundries and political correctness had not yet emerged to stifle some expression. Most TV is usually awful, it being American doesn't make it any worse. Some people think any TV with a British accent is Shakespeare but, they made just as much crap.

  • @effactor1 Most American TV in 1976 was awful. Then, as now, shows were stiflingly micromanaged by the network executives.

  • What creativity and freedom TV had back then.

  • Van Dyke and Company (1976) - it won the Emmy for best variety show even though it was cancelled.

  • What show was this?

  • Ribbit...ribbit...ribbit.....

  • reebeet. LOL
