Up to his death, Marc Lawrence (1910-2005) played gangsters of Italian origin. His being type cast seems to be a pity as he was a very versatile and talented actor. In Cloak and Dagger (1946), dir. Fritz Lang he plays an Italian secret police agent in fascist Italy during World War Two. He shadows Gary Cooper and gets into a fierce fight with him - an almost silent struggle for life and death, accompanied by some Italian song that filters in from the street. The attractive woman with Cooper is Lilli Palmer, an emigree who later returned to Germany and besides acting wrote several widely read books.

  • @JubalCalif Awesome!!!

  • @OvermarsDaria

I was thinking the same thing! The long "fight to the death" certainly has a lot in common with a similar scene in Hitchcock's 1966 espionage thriller "Torn Curtain", starrring Paul Newman & Julie Andrews.

I certainly second that emotion !!!

  • @HAZIDEAD I know good and damn well what character acting is. Type casting or actors portraying the same kinds of characters over and over again.
