@Littlejon126 Well masks aren't really necessary with drilling exercises. Bouting, certainly, but with controlled drills and demonstrations, it's fine. At least, that's my experience.

@Emanusmell Freelance Academy Press has a nice little video download and pdf for a modest price. It's a translation and interpretation of messer techniques from the Glasgow Fechtbuch. Gives a nice overview of the basics of defence with the messer. Also, getting the basics of body movement from any martial art is also a big help in interpreting these texts. Taking up something like wrestling or Judo will help too, or good kenjutsu if you can find it.

Talhoffer isn't quite the same as the "Olympic-style" fencing most people practice. Try these moves at a meet sometime. ^_~ Additionally, one can train their muscles through "kinetic learning" to perform various techniques correctly, thus leaving less up to chance when the techniques are being performed slowly, as in this clip.

lol u dont need to use masks if your aiming at each other's weapons like in this demonstration. notice they dont continue their attacks until the opponent's sword is locked with their own. replay it a few times if ya need to be sure. =p
Masks? Safety goggles even?
All fun and games until someone gets blinded.

We're willing to take those risks. We wear masks when we think we should and don't when we don't think we need to.

I just wanted to note that an arm-lock using the pommel to hook the wrist and the left hand at the elbow is another good option to finish this technique.

Thanks for the compliment!
