Genius singer-songwriter Pete Roe and his band perform Bellina & Underneath The Apple Tree live at the Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell, London EC1 on Wednesday 11 August 2010. This video also includes Pete's solo performance of The Merry-Go-Round from the same gig.
I should point out that this video includes an abridged version of Bellina . This is because I foolishly forgot to put a new media card in the camera before Pete's set started! It does, however, have a beginning and an end, but, sadly, the last verse is missing. I resumed filming asap, and have spliced the instrumental ending onto the penultimate verse. This occurs at 2m12s, when the picture briefly fades to black. It was such a great version of the song that I decided to include it anyway.
All three songs can be found on Pete Roe's recently released EP, 'The Merry-Go-Round', together with the fabulous Oh Susannah.
The Merry-Go-Round EP is available on CD, download and glorious 10" vinyl (Communion Records). Highly recommended! Go on, treat yourself.
Pete also regularly plays in Laura Marling's band, and last year accompanied Laura and Mumford & Sons on their ground-breaking tour of India, performing with Indian folk group The Dharohar Project. Pete, Laura, the Mumford boys and The Dharohar Project were recently re-united for a show at London's Roundhouse as part of the annual iTunes Festival.
I'd seen Pete Roe a couple of times before but this was the first time I'd seen him play with a full band -- and what a band! Double-bass (bowed and plucked), cello and some fabulous slide guitar accompanied Pete and his acoustic guitar. There was even some amazing musical saw action (from the cellist) during the blistering climax of The Devil's Dancefloor!
One of the best gigs I've seen this year!
I was at this gig, very special. First time I got to see Pete Headline and managed to speak to him afterwards too. Seen him live and met him many times now and he never fails to impress me with his talents and overwhelming 'niceness'.

I seen Pete Roe support Laura Marling in Inverness a year ago and although he only played 6 songs, it was one of the most memorable gigs I have ever been to. Please visit Scotland again Pete.
