StockShot's time machine takes us back to the 20th century. Neeltje-Jans is an artificial island in the Netherlands in the Oosterschelde. It was constructed to facilitate the construction of the Oosterscheldedam, part of the Delta Works, which started in 1979.
The Oosterscheldekering or Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier, is the largest of the Delta works series of dams, designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding.
Four ships were specially designed and built for this project: Ostrea, Macoma, Mytilus and Cardium.
The Oosterscheldekering was officially opened in 1986
