    The single greatest cinematic interpretation of how a "child" sees the inanimate object he holds in esteem. For the character in this movie, it wasn't about Americans VS Japanese, it was about the planes. Nothing more, nothing less.

    The engine was a Roll Royce Merlin built under license by Packard. It was a RR Merlin V-12 to the core. The firm or factory which built them has no bearing whatsoever as to the design.

    mustang was actually a british ordered design. from an American company....however as soon as the word spread and then both side of teh atlantic did their own merlin installs and then they discovered they had a world beater on their hands.

    it was actually a great plane either way, but the merlin had a great advantage at altitude. and the constant improvements made it a sure axis beater by D Day
