(continued from previous comment) Christ died for us in spite of our wickedness because of his mercy. All we need to do is put our trust in him, and he will "forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9) not because of what we've done but because of what Christ has done.

In John chapter one, in reference to Jesus, John the baptist says "It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie." (John 1:27 NASB) and Jesus said "I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John..." (Luke 7:28 NASB)
How is it that John the baptist was not worthy to untie Jesus' sandles and yet the Son of God died for us because of some worth that we have? The answer is that we are not "worth dying for" as this song says. Christ died
