Incidentally, to show you how universal and enduring the appeal and value of this band is: I got here from a link at CAMILLIE PAGLIA'S website!

Camille Paglia is a polymath, writer, and a Libertarian Lesbian who mainstream feminists don't know what to do with. Her blog is linked to Drudge, and I read her stuff from there when I go there. The idea that a Cream tune, THIS Cream tune, was important to her, I found fascinating.

REMARKABLE that, at this point, even if they couldn't stand each other, they still played together as if they shared a brain.

If you were to hear this solo by itself, without Bruce and Baker beneath it, you might be surprised how pedestrian it is... (Clapton's "Crossroads" solo, played without an accompaniment, is a crashing bore... I've heard it done that way often during exam week at Berklee.) Cream was not about "solos," it was about collective improvisation, three guys creating something, every time, that was greater than the sum of its parts.
C's later solos are more interesting; THIS material is supernatural.

Saw some old interview with Janis Joplin. She is saying, "Man, when Bruce is up there on stage, do you think he even knows where he is?" As great as Clapton and Baker are on this, it's like Bruce has a whole 'nother high gear that he shifts into on stage. This is a terrific live performance, a great band at their best.

The Farewell Tour was their worst one. They were so sick of each other by this time, all of them stayed at separate hotels and only saw each other at concert. They had officially disbanded almost a half year earlier but had to drag on touring. Really a testament to their respect for each other musically that they could continue playing at such a level despite their animosity towards each other.

The best recorded tracks from the Farewell Tour are on the Goodbye album(I'm So Glad is ferocious)
