UPDATE (5/22/11): 1,000 views!

Taped: September 4, 1972
Aired: October 15(?), 1972
Episode 6
I'm very aware of how common this episode is, but I'm bored and on the internet, so I'm uploading it. From fall of 1972, it's the sixth episode of The New Price is Right hosted by Dennis James! The games played on this episode are Grocery Game, Any Number (for a boat!), and DOUBLE Double Prices. This upload does not have any annoying watermarks (like gsn93's) or any parts (like BlackwoodCompany's), this is just the episode exactly as it was downloaded off of the old classicgameshows.com. Enjoy!

  • Question... Was this lady the first Black model on The (New) Price Is Right?

  • 23:27 LOVE the TPIR font in the closing credits!!!! FTW!!!

  • @Pyrotech56

Too bad they had to change it really quickly, since nobody could read it.

  • His explanations are brilliant! They had so much more time for explanation back than.

  • @JackPlatt

I'm pretty sure they were more in-depth with the explaination because:

    1. The show was new, so it's not like anybody would know how to play the pricing games.

    2. The show was only a half-hour with 3 pricing games, so they needed to fill up the slot.

  • @Mcnzlea I think for the sound effect of the old-time cash register. It's really just a calculator - the model has a printed list on the register of how much it would for 1 ,2 ,3, etc. of each item. That's why, when a contestant says something wild like 23 Rice-a-Roni's, the model gets all flustered, because the list doesn't go that high.

  • @Mcnzlea Because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's what's wrong with 79% of damn near ANYTHING nowadays.

  • I like Dennis' old ice cream cone microphone.

  • @BatmanFan1966 I believe Dennis James would have been just as great as Bob Barker was for 35 years, although TPIR might not have lasted as long if they went with James as originally planned.

  • @Mcnzlea: It's done, I assume, for tradition. Half the charm is that the show, as a whole, often plays as if it were from the '70s and '80s with the only difference being the inflationary prices in the items (and of course, the show's host). Also, it's a game show, there's no need for the props to be "modernized". There's too much glitz and modernization on other programs. Next year marks the 40th anniversary of the show's 1972 debut.

  • Why are they still using the old-school cash register in 2011? Name one grocery store that does that today. Time's up.

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH R.I.P., Dennis James. You're missed. R.I.P., Johnny Olson. You're also missed.

  • I vividly remember watching the nighttime "The New Price is Right" when I was in grade school. It would air on my local station @ 6:30 pm in the Midwest. I was in elementary school in those days! I thought Dennis James was an excellent host. I can't remember if he hosted all eight PM seasons of "TPiR"? I remember those years when the local stations would air syndicated programming from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm CT, in between the networks airing soap operas & prime-time programming.

    Bravo, Dennis!

  • OMG a TPIR contestant in a business suit!!!!!

  • How do you think Dennis did with The Nighttime Price is Right?

  • Betty's big day, giggles

  • Thanks to youtube, I get to watch the full length clips.

  • That Betty sure knows her prices!

  • that's where i saw the first hourlong TPIR online before "Big Brother" came and shut it don :(

  • Bacon makes everything better. :)

  • @UsuxMyBallsack

    Blocked.

  • @BatmanFan1966 Not only that, but Dennis James and director Paul Alter were the only two individuals involved with the original version of "The Price is Right" with Bill Cullen on NBC. Dennis James was one of the substitute host when Bill Cullen was on vacation (the show was broadcast live except on the West Coast), so he was the only person to host both versions in New York and L.A.. Paul Alter split the duties with Mike Gargiulo so he was the only person to direct both versions.

  • i noticed being from 72, the theme was pitched as if it were in the 90s thought that was pretty cool

  • 8:50; They're called 'pages'. Marc Berkowitz was a page around that time. You probably know him better as Marc Summers.

  • @WS3RD A fact either not known or generally overlooked was that Dennis James was the only person to host both the original G-T Bob Stewart-produced version on NBC (subbing when Bill Cullen was on vacation; it was a live broadcast back then in the Eastern & Central times zones) and the current version. Ironically, the nighttime version was syndicated by Viacom to mostly NBC stations and followed on WNBC-4 New York by Bob Barker and "Truth or Consequences." A little "deja-vu" from the 1960's!
