Didn't know the SES had helicopters. Which state has the helicopter? I know VicSES doesn't, although I wish they did. I tried but couldn't convince my controller to get one for our unit :(

@rob77g60 to my knowledge, the service doesn't own a helicopter. I think it's been found to be more practical, financially, to contract aircraft in for specific incdents. It's the same for the Rural Fire Service, although the RFS have spent money & time training their volunteers to refuel aircraft engaged in RFS ops. So if you see a helicopter with SES decals, it's not a service owned aircraft, but has been mocked up to appear as one of ours :)

@165521 - Just saying, the mainland doesn't pay much attention to Tasmania, but Tasmania was the spark for an amazing national organisation.
-
@verticalsmurf - In Tasmania, it did; but not nationally. Civil Defense in QLD was activated following a Brisbane tornado in 1973, and then the floods in 1974. 1975 saw the establishment of the SES in Queensland per the State Counter Disaster Organisation Act 1975 (Qld). This became law prior to the Emergency Services Act 1976 (Tas). I'm not sure about other states.
All of that aside... what about it would be ironic?
