  • Doom prophets are very helpful in a way. They show that claims taken from interpretations of scripture are easily debunked. In Campings case, very easily because he was foolish enough to attribute a date to his interpretation.

But loads of apologists have been running around, bible in hand, claiming that the bible, in fact, tells that nobody will know the end IAW that you can not predict. This, of course, also is provably wrong. The loonies unknowingly show everybody the failures in scripture.

  • @Voxnulla Actually the people pointing out that scriptures say no human will know ahead of time, when the world will end, are the ones usually calling Camping an idiot from the inside.

  • @BoredomCorner Indeed, that is the most funny thing to me. Other Christians bending over backwards making counter claims based on the same erroneous source material. It just shows how horridly broken scripture is and how cognitively messed up faith in the supernatural is.

  • @Voxnulla These people are basically agreeing with you, and you're still attacking them.

Bigotry is just as wrong for atheists as it is for anyone else.

  • @BoredomCorner In the original meaning, religious hypocrite, I should think that both Camping and the evangelical anti-camping would be the first defending me from accusations of bigotry (oh the irony). But it seems to mean something entirely different today. If I speak out against rightist political movements, calling them dangerous and stupid, I'd probably be called a left-wing political bigot. Frankly, I'm all for equal right to believe untrue things, criticize those and feel insulted by it.

  • @BoredomCorner Of course they are not agreeing with me. Nor do I with them. If they think you can not know the end of the world because the bible said so, they are just as deluded as Camping is.

Both interpretations of scripture are objectively wrong because A. we are still here and B. humans are able to predict various scenarios that will end life, earth, solar system, universe etcetera.

Bigotry is just a catch phrase used to derail critical expression. It's like godwinning, I'm no bigot.
