Here's my rendition of the song "Photographic" by Depeche Mode, precisely the "Some Bizzare Version" release. I'm not able to coordinate myself to sing along the playing, so just imagine Dave Gahan singing for me eheh ;-)
The drums are (shitty) sequenced with Modplug Tracker, a Windows program which is used to make the famous MOD files which were so popular in the Amiga world in the 80ies and 90ies.
Welcome back Roland Juno 106! Now I replaced its failed voice chips and works like new.
As you can see, the Juno does the bass, the Yamaha SY77 the PWM lead sound and the JP8000 the filtered pad at the song's beginning. A PWM sound is obtainable on the SY77 by stacking the AnalogSaw1 (whick looks like this: /|/|/|/|/|) and AnalogSaw2 (whick looks like this: \|\|\|\|\|) samples, and detuning them. As these samples are both sawtooth waves, but one is inverted, if summed the result is a pulse wave. The detuning rate between the oscillators in this configuration gives the pulse modulation speed.
The bass sound is made by taking the #11 preset on the Juno 106 and adding a bit of suboscillator, then transposing the keyboard +1 oct.
The pad on the JP8000 is a classic double-sawtooth sound with slow attack, decay and release on the filter, which have a strong resonance setting, as you can clearly hear.
Well, in this video you also can see my ugly face eheh ;-)
As usual, constructive comments are welcome!

  • @manhenk WHOOOPS sorry, I have answered with the wrong Youtube account. It was me, mima14031985 which answered to your comment with the account "luigiratticomo"

  • @manhenk It's both boring practice (some piano exercises) AND experimenting, taking apart, learn and replay by ear the songs I like. And this last is the funny and most satisfactory part.

But don't take me wrong, I'm not a professional player, I play keyboards since only about 4 years and I still have a lot of things to learn.

Anyway, thanks for your comment :-)

  • Dang, I have the SY77 also and a Kawai K1II but I am so far away from being able to play.. why can´t I just buy the expertise of playing as well.. I guess it is all back to the boring practice practice practice...

  • @jpmartineau You're welcome :-). So I guess you also own a SY-77 (or 99)...
