For Marcus and Karen Gomes, the decision to get a new computer was all about their children, Carla and Caio. "Carla wants to be a fashion designer, so I want her to be able to travel into that world," Marcus said. "Caio wants to be a dentist." But in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the family lives, computers are too expensive for many average households. It was a major commitment for the Gomes family to buy one. Windows XP Starter Edition was an affordable option, and now the future is looking brighter for the entire family. Karen is developing her knowledge of surgical procedures to help in her work as a nurse. Caio, who had been falling behind with his reading skills, is improving via the Internet. Carla is staying in touch with her friends and faraway relatives. And most important, the family is using the computer together. "The children remain at home a lot more now, away from the dangers of the street," Karen said. "The computer has changed our lives."
