You could potentially go to jail for stealing something, even if there isn't a lot of financial value to what it is that you stole. There is a cutoff point, for example for more than $250, from petit loss to grand larceny. Again, it's going to be the facts and circumstances that control whether the prosecutor is looking for jail time, your record's going to be a part of that consideration.
