Since diesels don't rev out much do they have more gears or does the extra torque just pull through it? I don't know much about them just starting to educate myself.

Not really man I mean you can get them with a 5 or 6 speed just like a normal car, First Gear is way way lower then any gas engine car however... But yeah man just the torque and all that boost really provides alot of power and speed....

@gwise84 Well yeah i know that, but i want to convert my truck over to 3.73's, im tired of listening to that monster cranking at 2 grand just to do 70 on the highway

They only offered a 4.10 and 3.54...3.73's weren't until the CR's

@jodyb11 I have the same truck basically, 2001 cummins. I am guessing thats a six speed which is the same as mine. The final drive gears are 4:10's and wind out way too fast i think. If you want higher speeds with lower rpm's you want to get a lower final drive. 3:73's are what i would go with

I was noticing your rpms to your speed. What kind of gear ratios do you have on that truck to get such low rpms and high speeds. I am lookin to build up my 2500. I got a 6 speed but dont know if i need to change the tranny or what kind of axle i need to turn my truck like that please help
