(Sorry about adding of background music -- I added it to eliminate the TV background sounds :) This Two-spotted tree cricket is in the process of molting. The exoskeleton is visible attached to the leaf . The tree cricket uses tiny claws in its hind legs to clasp the leaf as it hangs upside down -- benefiting from gravity in emerging from the exoskeleton. Note how the tree cricket uses one set of its legs to push against the end of the exoskeleton which is still snug around its distal abdomen. Watch each of the antennae pop free from their exoskeletal sheaths - one at a time.
i think that the video of this type is always better with a background music. its so cool to watch lil beings molt.
