  • What obvious media bias. "Queen or country"? So I guess they are trying to send a subtle message that you cannot be a patriotic Australian and loyal to the Queen of Australia at the same time. How bizarre.

  • Very good point.

The presentation of the whole thing was unmistakably pro republic......and not just the commercial channels but SBS as well. ABC showed the only sign of a balanced veiw........but then again John Howard was a monarchist!

Thank god it failed........do we want Australia to end up like Ireland or America? Better the devil you know!

  • @MadMonarchist well - NO ! - you can not be a patriot of one country and serve the Queen of another ! how can you serve two masters ?! tell me , i would like to know ! LOL !!! - if you voted for Monarchy then you betrayed the people of Australia who fought so hard in 19th century to brake away from the Monarchy and got the first step on their way to "independence" in 1901 . Those people experienced first hand the "love" of their Queen who send them away and told them never to come back !

  • this referendum was RIGGED !!! all my friends and all my family (with 1 exception of my dumb ass dad ) voted for republic , how on earth it came down to the wire is BEYOND ME !!! - so therefore i can say i'm convinced 100% IT WAS RIGGED !!!

besides , the Queen would not want to let go of Australia that easily , so she just made it to look like we were making a choice . This way she was able to silence the critics ! shame Australia , shame on You for swallowing this royal crap so easily !

  • If you study Marx' Communist Manifesto you will find that in essence Marx said the proletarian revolution would establish the socialist dictatorship of the proletariat. To achieve the socialist dictatorship of the proletariat, three things would have to be accomplished: (1) The elimination of all right to private property; (2) The dissolution of the family unit; and (3) Destruction of what Marx referred to as the "opiate" of the people, religion.

  • @stegatops hey Ireland and the US are fine as Republics, their financial position has nothing to do with that

  • Wow, I'm having flashbacks of the days when the look of TV news (the fonts, etc.) wasn't so goddamn tacky like it is now!

  • @1prouddemocrat Murdoch didn't have anything to do with 7

  • @tomc1989 Firstly, Colonial First State, now part of the Commonwealth Bank, were evidently sponsors of the telecast of the results.

Secondly, I don't find the title THAT impartial; it seems to be a pun on the old saying that the Australian/British/etc Soldiers were fighting not only for themselves, but "For King/Queen and Country".

  • whats was the "colonial" logo under "Queen or Country" in the opening title?

and yes, "queen or country" is hardly a impartial title for the coverage
