Hi potential applicant,
My name is Paul Stafford, I run the Foundation Course in Art and Design at Kingston University. The most common question I'm asked at our open days is "what should be in an applicants portfolio". So, I thought I'd make you a movie. This second movie is 11 minutes long and contains my descriptions and observations of an average portfolio from a student who gained a place on our course.
A video like this is quite valuable to potential applicants of any university. Especially those, like me, who haven't been studying art recently and don't have much of a portfolio to speak of.
You should consider using a clip mic for better audio. This video is quite quiet.

Today i have 2 sketchbooks a few sheets and a large nude in pastels that survived this time due to moving countries and family that threw it all away.

Very useful video on the "portfolio" because even back in 1981 when i was interviewed at Leicester and in 1984 at the Beaux Arts Paris the portfolio is a major point in getting the approval. Well done and I agree about what wad mentioned by the art teacher.

Thank you for making this video. It's really helpful, as an a level student to see what a successful portfolio is like. Is there a maximum weight, or quantity of work etc? You never know, next year you may be looking at my work! :)

Damn it, according to this I'm going to have to add some variation to my work, I doubt graphite and charcoal drawings alone will cut it.

this is really good...it has helped me alot to decide wat to put in my protfolio :) thanks. but there seem to be less writing in these portfolios or sketchbooks coz i do graphics communications and i have loads of critical analysis and text in my books..so will that effect a chance to do the course or something??
