To Pretension 08/05/2011
I AM PRETENTIOUS.
Pretension became an epithet
When the small men with smaller minds
And smallest souls took this world
And chose to smother out the stars
Lest any light outshine their dimness.
Pretentious became the shackle
They would cast to make pariahs
Teaching children to welcome the sty of hatred
Than to wash off and struggle for higher
Than the mediocrity they're served with.
Pretension is the first arrow of scorn
Volleyed at those who'd seek to better this world
As such I bare my chest
To embrace that weapon of a word.
For I want a colossal world
With oceans deeper than the Marianas abyss
With the sky as high as 10 billion light years
A planet surging in the earth shocks of footsteps
Of vast multitudes
Of limitless intellect,
Insatiable in their appetites for evolution.
I want to be obscured,
Dancing within the fires
Of those who will come after me,
Who will sing better than all my songs,
Who will write stronger than my best lines,
Who will dash each creation of mine to shame.
I'm a man who aches
To rip this world apart,
Just to witness the pulse and squirm
Of the ripping dripping organs
That underneath support it.
This lends hunger over my belly
And fire upon the soul,
And the shadow cast out by that flame
Sometimes flickers as the fool,
And that constant craving
May distort this face to froth and to drool,
But within this I live....deeper
Weep more powerfully
Laugh more loudly
Dance more profoundly
Taste more wholly,
The author here....well, in a week I will be moving to live with my parents. I have hit rock bottom. I don't really care who laughs at me any more.
