The fact that users can "flag" videos they think aren't within YouTube's guidelines seems rather democratic (kind of unless people are ganging up on certain users, are biased, etc), however if YouTube has the final say that's were things get a tad dubious.
The example from the video of the lemon looking like a nipple is the perfect example of subjective and sloppy censorship which are problematic in a space that at first glance appears to be so "free".
Thats jus wrong, that is sick, it's not racist to be against Obama, what is he Jesus Christ?
No because Jesus wasn't political, god.
if people are gonna be so freaken racist minded why don't I say Don't vote for Obama, vote for Oprah Winfrey, that way they can't call me a racist since shes black.
i have actualy been censored in a videogame called MGO , theres a guy that booted me out of a game cuz i said "i wonder how obama feels at KFC" then later he spammed me calling me a "good-for-nothing peice of racist trash"
I have a problem with censorship in general, especially on such a "democratic" forum such as Youtube. I don't think private censorship is any better than public censorship. The MPAA, a private organization, has huge influence over the content of films. The MPAA is notoriously secretive, and decisions are made by small groups of people. Perhaps Youtube should put up warnings (like they sometimes do) on controversial videos, but they should not remove the videos nor take them down.
Your thoughts about humor, and private censorship, are particularly compelling. Your piece speaks volumes in relation to the Race Group about mob culture, and the place of criticality, resistance, and free speech in a truly democratic space.
Censorship is a tricky subject.
