Internet censorship is not the answer to problems of piracy online. Cato Institute research fellow Julian Sanchez explains that internet censorship won't effectively address the problem of piracy and will threaten innovation and the liberties of Americans by engaging in unconstitutional prior restraint.

Video produced by Caleb Brown, Austin Bragg and Julian Sanchez.

"... the only difference between the Unites States and China is what's on the blacklist."

    Sobering words.

Beyond the philosophical arguments, the specific mechanisms required in the current SOPA/PIPA legislation are a technical attack on the robustness of Internet DNS. The intent of the blocking mechanisms could be worked around by anyone with a minimal level of technical skill, but only at the cost of reducing reliability and security in DNS and killing mechanisms used today to operate content distribution networks. It is no exaggeration to say that these bills would *break the Internet*

You people DO know the Cato Institute is run by the Koch brothers right?

They are determined to wipe out out the creative community because writer, musicians, actors and artists have been incredibly effective at promoting equality and human rights for two centuries.

Like most Libertarians, the Koch family and the Cato Institute embrace is not liberty of human beings, but the liberty of the ultra powerful to turn rest of us into slaves.

This video is really good. I'm even impressed by how thoughtful the comments are. 0:33 My thoughts exacly. Blocking things automaticly does violate our rights to due process. I am so glad somebody else said that. That guy really seems to know the law. The Bill of Rights gives citizens the right to a trial and protection from unreasonable search and siezure. I feel like it has been violated. Censorship infringes on free speech, witch is also in the Bill of Rights. This is serious.

Hey! I go to TV Tropes too. I love that site. I also recently got hooked on Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick. If any of them was penalized for "copyright infringement", than it is going too far. They obviously share some copyrighted material for the purposse of discussion and critiquing. That goes under fair use, so there should be protection from punishment.

He mentioned they don't take down whole websites without due process, really?!... that's EXACTLY what they did with Megaupload, took the site down criminally without due process.
