Welcome to the Board Game Design and Code Monkeys series of video tutorials. This series will cover the various aspect in which computer programmers can be used in board game design.

This first episode covers the benefits of automated playtesting. This is my very first video tutorial, please excuse my various pauses and mid-sentence verb tenses reversals/grammar missteps.

  • Hi

Great video, I really enjoyed it. I was somewhat surprised that a thousand runs take a few minutes - it is much more than I'd expect it takes. Still, that's much better than anything that real live people could do.

Just an idea: Link the follow up tutorials here in the description, so that people can easily jump there and watch them.

  • @VagabondEx Thanks for the comment! Actually, I just went back with a stopwatch and as it turns out, 1000 runs is 45 seconds. It just feels like a few minutes when you do nothing but stare at it. In compiled C/C++ it would certainly take less time, but coding in python is so much faster and easier I think. Did the link thing in the description, thanks! Also, part three coming hopefully this week, stay tuned!

  • Yes, I use python instead of Java for the very same reason. 45s sounds much better :)

    Can't wait for part 3. :D
