Episode 7: The Rescape. Got hooked up with some NICE plants which came today so I added them to the tank and took the time to refine the placement a bit more.
Great looking tank Joe! Thank you for posting these videos - I plan to get the book soon but this is really helpful for me to see the potential results from reading it. BTW, do you have the tank exposed to available sunlight?
@ttstan the ideal would be a southern exposure but it is not pratical for me. My room has eastern exposure so the sun is really intense. I did try to let some indirect light in but the tanks are so close to the window that i got a huge surge in both plant and algea growth, so i had to back off. eastern exposure was just too strong in the morning so i just work with my lighting. My 47 uses Sylvania 25 watt 6500k compact floresents I get at lowes and just 3 of those is almost too much!
Tank is looking good. Are you just using the sponge on the powerhead for a filter? Also, how much light are you using? I don't remember you mentioning how much wattage.
@shadowmeldfs Thanks! I am happy with it so far but I still need to work the scape a bit more. The lights are 4 32 watt T-8's...giving me about 2.3 watts per gallon, the bulbs are 2 6500K and 2 5000K bulbs. As for the powerhead, yeah, the sponge is the prefilter and it slips over a 1" pvc tube which i can load with filter floss or any other type of media i choose. Its the only filtration I run, it also doubles as the airation. Right now i am just running the prefilter, no internal media.
