I didn't see anything in the 9 seconds to imply it was a pet.

At any rate, where do you think domesticated animals come from? Many generations ago they were wild animals kept as pets. Wouldn't have housecats today if no one did it on moral grounds. I wouldn't consider getting one myself but frankly in the case of ordinary leopards, I see it as a non-issue because they're the only non endangered wild cat and generations later it could lead to domesticated leopards just like large breed dogs.

@supersandor - i should have clarified, that was a few years ago and i gave too quick of a reply. The entire exotic animal industry (rescue/zoo/good/bad) is a whole big mess. And our rescue see's the worst of it... we get animals that are from black market owners, shut down circus, and even a few zoos have had to shut down to lack of funding and the animals dont always go to other zoos. So being unable to care for your pet just seems slightly abusive.

@supersandor - aside from that i def. agree with you. We have many exotics born into captivity b/c they are endangered or just b/c we use a buddy system & that sometimes happens (Not often). Hand raising them so we can Care for them safely the rest of their life is something we also do. Its all a touchy subject & we do our best to care for our rescues and educate the public on keeping the wild in your heart and not in your home. On that note there are some legal/educated exotic owners as well!

@supersandor - they only give you a 500 word response. LOL - there ARE some GOOD and legal exotic owners out there, but the bad ones give everyone a terrible reputation. Regardless, this leopard is now a thriving four year old with a good life :)

Sorry, I was ignorant in that area. I am used to seeing baby leoaprd or tigers or lions that are abused and mistreated. It spikes my fur when I see 'baby' anything these days.

@sadgreen read the last 5 words of the comment. "Just like large breed dogs". The argument is flawless. You think a wolf is any less dangerous than a leopard? Because that's how dogs started. Also a wild animal doesn't need to eat you to tear your throat out, by the way.

@supersandor House cats don't grow big enough to be able to eat their owners. For other smaller animals your argument is correct though.

@jessicakribbs Honest question: How would zoos abuse these animals? I understand how circuses would abuse them of course.

No big cat makes a good pet, but leopards are amongst the worst. They're naturally nervous and highly opportunistic - almost everywhere they live they share the space with bigger competitors (not least other big cat species).

It's ridiculous to have a big cat as a pet, but its beyond ridiculous to have a leopard.

Search youtube and you'll find vids of tame cougars, lions, tigers, but no leopards..for a reason!

I think on of the only place that I know of that saves wild felines that have been injured or their parents killed is big cat rescue, besides indivigual owners. So much harm is done to this world because of selfish humans.
