yellow jackets are a hornet they sting more than twice wasps only sting once yellow jackets make there nest in a hole or aerial or underground there much more smarter than wasps

fucking hell you wouldnt want to throw a rock at them here in England we get lots of nests inside lofts,walls, trees(rarly) and underground , sheds , basicly any were the suit making a nest here we get the common wasp,german wasp,european hornet the biggest hornet in england and so parasitic wasps and the potter wasp

I believe we filmed these nests in July or August.

They were agitated only because we got fairly close to film the nest. Our cameraman, though he was dressed in a beekeeper suit, did sustain a sting on his nose.

I think they may have run out of space inside the wall and eventually built their "addition" on the side of the building. There were a lot of yellowjackets inside that nest, as I recall. After filming it, we vacuumed them out and destroyed the nest -- it took a long time!

Wow, that first nest is big for this species! At first glance I would have mistaken it for a bald-faced hornet's nest. We had a nest that eventually grew to about this size under our deck it the summer of 2004. You can see a video of it reacting to a disturbance in the related videos column.
