Have you ever had the same problem? Found any solution? Please post it in comments!

So far I've found out that disabling Hardware acceleration for DirectDraw and DirectX, along with Software BLT solves most problems but that many stuttering/lag issues remain. Disabling PC AI can also reduce lag a small amount.

An example is included in this video. It shows how to disable hardware acceleration (In Swedish but you can probably figure out how to do it anyway)

The first area shows everything working fine. The next area after the loading screen shows how its lagging extremely, making the game nearly unplayable.

It's patched and updated to 2.0.1.0 official. I tried to run it along with the Tweak pack and the NPC mod from http://www.gibberlings3.net/ but results are negative so far.

Please post any comment on solutions. I have read reports that some NVidia users share this problem as well.

Kind Regards

  • I found out the problem. I had gained about 5 bags which I kept in my inventory. Throwing them away one by one reduced and eventually removed the lag completely for that particular area.

To proceed lag-free I will have to continue without any bags. Picking them up will return the lag once again. Odd but endurable.

  • Ive tried about everything except installing Windows 98 again. It should be at least playable.

    Regards

  • I had this same problem with baldur gate using the BG2 engine.

    this solved it:

    look for /topic/39238-generalized-biffing/

    on shsforums

  • BTW, my desktop runs XP, my laptop runs Vista

I'm thinking about buying a new laptop this week: Pentium P6100, GeForce GT420M, a bit anxious about how it will perform, or if I will be better of with an Corei3 370M, Radeon HD5470 build for being able to continue playing IE games

  • DnD Roleyplayer, it would help people a lot if you post the specs for your machine along with the video. It very much depends on the specific setup of the machine if Baldur's Gate or other Infinity Engine games run well.

My settings in BGII (in BGConfig): Hardware Acceleration off, Software Transparant BLT off, 16 bit colors.

    specs desktop: Athlon 64 X2 6000+, GeForce 8500GT

specs laptop: Pentium Dual Core T2330, GeForce Go7300

    both run IE games fluently

  • Thanks a lot.

I need this for BG 1 with Tales of the Sword Coast. It works well now. Thanks again. :)

  • Try this: start - run - dxdiag - display tab - disable direct 3D accel

  • Thanks man! However I wasn't kidding about the bags issue. As soon as I drop the scroll cases, potion cases, and BOHs the game runs smoothly. It's the most irritating thing ever! To make up for the game being inherently and irrevocably bugged, I used Dale Keeper to give my characters Strong Back. Perhaps unbalanced, but in light of the bags not functioning I actually think it is less 'Munchkinny' than a bag that can hold >100 Full Plate Armors and weigh only 15lbs\kgs.

  • Try running the game with one processor i dont know if your 1st machine has dual or not mine has 4 and some older games get lag until i set the affinity to 1 processor only mainly thief 1 and thief 2 wont run at all until i do that, I dont have the game so i cant help you yet.

    Specs:

    Quad core phenom 2

    4 gigs ddr2 ram

    1tb hd

    Gefoce 295 =) =) =)

  • You have GOT to be kidding me! It was the fucking bags!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! The fucking game works now. You rock! I'd have your kids if I could!

    For real.... Thanks a bunch.
