At the global board meeting of The Nature Conservancy on October 13, 2011, Alibaba Group Chairman and CEO Jack Ma announced the creation of the China Global Conservation Fund to help channel China's wealth toward international conservation projects. Ma became a trustee of The Nature Conservancy's China program in 2009 and joined the global board of directors of the organization in 2010.
