Capote might have been a better 3YO if not for the virus and then being rushed to the Triple Crown too quickly, though he might also have peaked that day. This was the greatest field of 2YO's I ever saw, when considering how many future Grade 1 winners Capote dusted that day.
I remember Gulch went to California early to get a race over the track before the BC, and Capote throttled him in the Norfolk. He beat some good horses here...and never won another race.
