Quite amateur comparison of three popular standards. Please forgive me for my poorEnglish.

VHS-C was lunched in 1982 (with large VHS tapes in 1976), about 2000-2001 popularity suddenly droped.

miniDV was lunched in 1995, and it was popular to about 2008-2009, when finally high-definition media flooded the market.

AVCHD was annouced in 2006...

  • I feel kind of sympathetic to JVC (the inventor of VHS), because you portrayed VHS as 240i and really, it's 575i. Also, DV just looks good.

  • @jjovereats I think, that even VHS camera will capture around 576i, only around 240 lines can be recorded due to limitations of VHS tape. S-VHS is better, can store around 400 lines. Only broadcast and DV cameras records real 576 lines. Check wikipedia for further information. I also feel sympathetic to JVC.

  • @ShamilBasayev And it's LAUNCHED, not LUNCHED.

  • @jjovereats Thanks, looks like my English is still messy.

  • @ShamilBasayev Your English is better than Engrish certainly. Have you ever used a VCR to record radio shows with a BSOA (Blue Screen of Audio)?

  • @jjovereats Nope, to be honest with you, I never heard of BSOA before, it's hard to google it too. Blue Screen... of Audio, what da heck is that? BTW I've got Sony SLV-E90 VCR (from 1994 I think).

  • Lol! Yes I did this enjoy this v much. Thanks for posting. I prefer the VHS. (roflmao!)

  • the pd170 is 2x218 field upscaled to 2x288 or 576i.

  • What about Hi8?

  • Digital zoom it the first thing I disable on any camera!

  • @ShamilBasayev Actually, it's a black screen, and you have a KEWL grade at English (from me, equiv. to grade E, very good)
