He fall at speed about a 990 Km/h. If you want to burn something in the earth atmosphere,you need to fly moore,moore faster. It`s starts at about a 2000 Km/h. At that speed you take temperature appr. a 120 to 200 degr. C. It is even still not a burn. But when you got a speed like Space Shattle - about 15000 Km/h,you will feel 1600-2000 degr. C.

Only opon rentry from outter space does anything burn, The Atmosphere is the first layer, He was below that in between the Mesosphere and Stratosphere.
