I saw the trailer for this on tv for the first time back in 1980 when I was four. It terrified me for years. The remake was nowhere as good as Kubricks.

1.Jack Nicholson improvised the "HERE'S JOHNNY!" line. Kubrick had been living in England and didn't originally understand that Nicholson was referencing Ed McMahon on "The Tonight Show."
2.Kubrick emphasized Jack Torrence going crazy rather than the supernatural elements of the novel because he felt that depicting an afterlife conflicted with his atheist beliefs.
