Meet the Couple Who Got Engaged on Live TV During City Council Meeting

The video clip of Andrew Hertzbergs public proposal to Andy Rollman in front of the DC City Council during their Nov. 2nd testimony in support of a local gay marriage bill has been viewed over a 250-thousand times on the web. Now, in their first interview, meet the men behind the media sensation and find out why they turned their testimony into an engagement and why they look so serious in the video.

The couple were among 250 other individuals who testified for ''The Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act. If passed, the bill would allow same-sex couples to be legally married within the District of Columbia. It would not require churches to perform same-sex weddings, but the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington has threatened that its social service programs (which include shelters and adoption agencies) would be discontinued if the city doesn't change the proposed bill.
