Twenty-five years ago, Chris Chianelli arrived on the doorstep of Air Age Media with rocked-out hair and a boyish grin. We didnt know it then, but he would become a vital member of our company, a huge creative force and, most of all, our close friend. A veteran model airplane builder and pilot, Chris helped to revitalize Model Airplane News and was a founding editor of RC Car Action and, along the way, he stole our hearts. It is with deep sadness that we report that our dear friend and colleague has passed away. All of us who were privileged to know Chris personally will remember him for his irrepressible humor, his outgoing personality, and his lifelong love of all things RC. These qualities made him the perfect host of the Air Age Radio Control Show, where he fulfilled his commitment to bring new faces into the hobby. Off-camera, Chris did charitable work with seriously ill and underprivileged children, always looking for a way to make someone smile. He was a familiar sight in town, driving his unique Excalibur roadster and always with his beloved canine sidekick Sophie. As an editor for RC Car Action and Model Airplane News, Chriss articles inspired and informed thousands of hobbyists, and his fun-loving personality always came through on the page. He always had an uncanny sense of what the RC enthusiast wanted and was passionate about delivering it to them. As we mourn the loss of our wonderful and exuberant friend, we are thankful for having known him. Chris, you made our lives brighter and richer, and we will miss you.

  • It's been over two years since I lost a good friend, For more than 25 years we would stay in touch and see each other at trade shows, hobby events, or just pick up the phone for a chat. We always talked about playing together, as he was an avid guitar player too, but never got the chance. We did get to work together on a few DIY Radio Control episodes, and that is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Chris ran from the heart, never scripted, just true passion 100% of the time.
