'Never a borrower or a lender be' wrote Billy Shakespeare back in the day and isn't hindsight a wonderful thing! Still, we're here now 'enjoying' interesting financial times, so let's not dwell on the past. Those formerly respectable individuals known as bankers wouldn't make the same mistake again would they? Does anyone remember Nick Leeson and Barings Bank? Did they learn from that? It's with a sense of foreboding that I hear bonus rumours rumbling out from the RSB, an 84% publically owned bank, that staff in their investment arm are to share 950 million in April!

What can we do???? Well..... I'm gonna song moan. Continuing from 'Funny Guy' here's some more black humour dished out by the amazingly talented Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy in musical hall stylee. The words are really cleverly contrived for maximum satirical effect. If you need to vent your spleen at those still coining it while the rest of us scrape around to get by, then this one's for you!

The complete banker, for those not in the know, is a nice bit if rhyming slang often used in Blighty to insult someone. The self love implied fits perfectly to the greedy characteristics now associated with the banking fraternity. As an apology for over active eyebrows in the last chorus I've added a free onanist gesture feature at the duration of this ditty!!

  • Great Job!! Love the version of the song! Any chance you could lash uo the chords you were playing?

  • @zamanoplc Thanks man. Yep. I'll see what I can do this weekend. Think the da capo was on the sixth fret. It was hard to get the range right for the vocals.

  • great song for these times.its been going on since money came into being ...one day everyone will have had enough of this greedy system.ive cometo the conclusion that a quarter of the human race has got a greedy gene.good look to you and people like billy bragg. .one day ...i always say......allan

  • @bigalli100 Thanks for the comment Allan. Yeah there's a cult of greed running the show. It shows no signs of stopping either. Money does all the talking.

  • Like this a lot Navim. It rings very true for these days and like you say a lot of these people are somehow still getting huge bonuses!!

  • @michi12388 Cheers Michael. There's a lot of dosh washing about. We can't all be in debt can we?? Certain institutions expect us to except such pay offs as common practice, as part of their special private game. It seems that the 'News of the World' had a fair bit of hush money until quite recently. There's another 'game' we're just supposed to put up with!! Money sadly talks and there's a lot of greedy people who hang on every syllable. Thanks again my friend.

  • @ibitron1 Cheers Ib. I'll check out that New Model Army song in a while. Used to Love 'Thunder and Consolation'. Your right about my chords and the economy! I wish I could say my playing was intentional!

  • Quality Nav!!!! Great song, and great title, "Complete Banker!". Made me laugh. The chords are at times erratic, like the economy :-)

  • @navim49

Why the big salaries now there is a question that I've been asking myslf even before the so called "Good Times", brings me long way back to Harvey Andrew's "Unacumpaied" or even "Targets" the anti Thatcher song.

Anyway I think we are on the same side even if we may be coming at it from different sides. Nice to hear from you

  • @padraigpurseal Appreciate your comments Padraig. The WW2 song you refer to is a lesson for us all in making a stand against injustice. In a similar way we might be guilty of turning a blind eye if bankers don't change.

2 years ago, big sums were dabbled in that didn’t exist. It was a mistake and we continue to suffer the repercussions, but we’re not blameless in this vulture culture so we took the hit for the common good. To my knowledge the money hasn't reappeared so why the big salaries?
