The most difficult *looking* timpani writing i ever looked at was from this piece.
It formed the background to a promotion poster for Ferneyhough. Peters edition kindly gave it to me when their shop closed down.

@trees1 I remember my jaw dropping to the earth's core upon seeing the score of Barrett's "Negatives" - then I read a lengthy, thoughtful review in Fanfare where the reviewer presumed that it was free jazz!
I wonder how Dlugoszewski notated her scores also, I would love to see one.

Amazing! I remember how complex this score is. Sometimes I feel this highly sophisticated western composition sounds as if aboriginal improvisations.
