Gary Lineker, «¿dónde está el delantero centro?» (1988/1989)

Gary Lineker va ser el primer davanter centre que va haver d'acatar les ordres de Johan Cruyff de jugar pegat a la banda. Després va passar el mateix amb Julio Salinas i més tard amb Hristo Stoichkov

Lineker encara es pregunta per què Cruyff el feia jugar d'extrem "no quería que jugara en el centro, quizás por si acaso marcaba goles..."

Fina ironia, carregada de raó, del gran Gary. Amb aquella decisió, Cruyff va evitar que Lineker fes una bona colla més de gols per al Barça, com havia fet les temporades anteriors i en tota la seva carrera. Potser el més greu error de Cruyff al Barça.

Que diferencia, y que educacion de Gary, al vivir en Barcelona, arender la lengua propiamente, no como Beckham que era un flojo de primera, anios y anios en Madrid y no hablarlo propiamente simplemente por ser flojo.

Ciertamente es raro que un futbolista inglés aprenda nuestro idioma de una manera tan perfecta en tan solo tres años, y eso le honra. Inglaterra debe sentirse orgullosa de haber tenido un futbolista y una persona como Gary Lineker (Por cierto tiene un aire hablando a Michael Robinson verdad? jejeje)

He wondered why Cruyff, while coach of Barcelona at the time Gary was playing with the blaugranas, switched him to play as a winger, rather than as a centerforward. Lineker sarcastically questioned Cruyff's motif that perhaps he intended to but the Englishman in the flank precisely to keep him from scoring goals. In essence, Lineker cannot give an answer to the interviewer on why Cruyff kept him from playing in the center. Gary states that there were better wingers with Barca at that time.
