All mp3 are compressed, get atleast 320 kb/s for focal stuff else you might aswell buy cheaper stuff. Best is either flac or Apple lossless.. They are lossless codecs wich, just like winzip, compress but retain the original data.

@bigmackburger i actually have the Focal polyglass and i love all types of music. mostly metal rock alteranative and sop rap and hip hop and they sound great in my little subaru legacy.even without my subs they still give the right amount of punch of bass. i highly recomend. they may be pricy but worth every penny.

I listen to mostly rock, hard rock, classic rock, and heavy metal. But I also enjoy rap and hip hop and pop once in a while, would the focal polyglass series speakers sound ok with all of those typesof music? I want clarity not bass and just crazy highs.I want a great sounding sydtem with a little bit of sub kick. thanks

@bigmackburger
Buy with confidence dude! I have listened to the Focals with many different types of music, including everything you mentioned, and they never faltered.
Make sure you give them good clean power, and use a high quality source. No heavily compressed MP3s, these speakers are good enough to reveal how bad a bad source can be just as well as they can make good sources sound amazing.

@crutchfieldtv How can you tell if a MP3 is "compressed" and is there a way to un-compress it. Let's say the MP3 player is just a normal Ipod Classic.

@82mage Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. All MP3 files are compressed. The sole purpose of the MP3 file format is to compress a large audio file to fit within a smaller memory space. The real question is: how much compression was applied? The answer lies within the bitrate (kbps) that was used to encode the file. A higher bitrate means less compression and a lower bitrate means greater compression.
