I've worked with a lot of programmers and I doubt you have the same training, aptitudes, or social benefit that a doctor does.

I feel your pain, I went through the same deal. That is why from now on I interview the boss before acceping any job offer. Its takes more time but saved more pain later on.

What do you guys think when someone says, "this is no rocket science"?

I think we are even better than rocket scientists. While they can focus on just one aspect of science we must be able to focus on anything - even on software which brings rockets into space.

Conclusion: We are better than rocket scientists because we have to get the knowledge in no time which they had years to study for.

It's US who make the space shuttle fly and it's us who make satellites do what they are supposed to do!

Love it. So true spending more time in meetings than coding. And then your non-programmer boss thinks that's exactly where you should spend your time but wonders why the project doesn't meet the deadline.
