In the June of 2001, The Washington Post online publications, Slate Magazine, published a story by Jay Forman entitled "Monkeyfishing: Cruel and Unusual? Or Good Sporting Fun?" In it Mr. Forman recounted the story of a trip he took to the Florida Keys, to an island where local fisherman had developed a custom of fishing for monkey reportedly left to breed there by a pharmaceutical research company.
It seemed too good to be true.
