For simplicity, the demonstration showed the firewall running on the host.

If the firewall was running on the network between the host and the Internet, the results would have been the same.

ip6tables will effectively firewall ipv6 traffic. And I don't quite understand your point since, if you already have sudo access to start up a toredo/sixxs/whatever ipv6 tunnel, then why wouldn't you just use sudo to stop iptables?
