Bill Gates hopes to solve some of the world's biggest problems using a new kind of philanthropy. In a passionate 10 minute excerpt from his February 2009 presentation at TED, he asks us to consider how we create great teachers.
Thanks for this comment. I am an English teacher in an undeveloped country and I am struggling to better myself, to better my teaching. When I am in front of my students I want them to learn but many people have no idea how hard this is. So, let me re use your last phrase: God bless the hard-working, dedicated, inner-city teachers!
@MsJanetWood Thanks for not giving any opinion on how to improve the situation besides saying 'hang in there guys.' At least gates has good ideas layed out here and is investing in finding a solution.

I would love to see Mr. Bill Gates attempt to teach Remedial Math in an inner-city school for 3 months. Do it for just 3 months, Mr. Gates!
Live like a teacher, eat like a teacher, work like a teacher!
Keep a journal of your feelings! Better yet, video tape the whole thing!
You will be amazed at how humbling the job can be!
God bless the hard-working, dedicated, inner-city teachers!
