Recording from the 2009 Western Massachusetts Sacred Harp Singing Convention.
www.wmshc.org

Images from the 1860 edition of the Sacred Harp, available online from the Library of Congress.

From www.FaSoLa.org:

Tune: M. A. Hendon, 1859
Words: Joseph Hart, 1759
Meter: 7s,6s Double (7,6,7,6,7,6,7,6)

Come, my soul and let us try
For a little season
Evry burden to lay by,
Come and let us reason.
What is this that casts thee down?
Who are those that grieve thee?
Speak and let the worst be known?
Speaking may relieve thee.

  • @stephendoleary The score is from the 1860 edition of the Sacred Harp, a common predecessor to both books.

  • The image on the screen shows the song as it appears in the Cooper Book. Is that what was used at this singing?
