I was going to call this episode "Lighting Rigs" but I think the word rig makes it sound too high-tech.

  • stupid question but why do bother with such a complicated set up .. multiple passes etc etc ... is it to make things faster to render in the long run .. or is it so you have more control?

  • Yes and yes. It may seem complicated, but it depends more on what you're comfortable with. I'm am much more comfortable compositing than I am setting up tons of lights and complex materials. It's also faster because you can tweak a comp much more quickly than you can a 3D render. Also, I started this project 4 years ago. At that time, the hardware couldn't have handled everything in one or even a couple of passes.

  • Wow just looked through all your pigon imposible videos, they are great and a goldmine of information you should make a tutorial DVD or book that covers the start to finnish of making a short film! or maybe you are?

  • I'm planning to release all of the podcasts as part of the DVD for PI, but I've also tossed around the idea of doing a book. Is that something people would be interested in?

  • Thanks! It's all XSI.

  • Thanks Zac! I do everything in Final Cut.

  • What modeling programs did you use? I use blender. Extremely amazing job btw, if you could hire some people and form a company maybe you could be a potential competitor to Pixar :D

  • @LucasMartell I found your videos really useful when you start doing your own stuff, if u sell a DVD i would buy it...

  • Lucas, may be u should do a book, The Art of P.I.

  • is there going to be a second?

  • Excellent! Very good explanations.
