    .... Just saying.

  • I cant wait for it to come out.

  • No I mean shonen is a demographic (young boys). But people use it for the actiony shonen anime. DBZ is probably the most well known example of actiony shonen.

My point was that shonen has enough variety (despite shonen typically JUST being used as a description for the type of anime that Naruto, DBZ, Bleach etc. is) that complaining about only shonen being popular seems at least somewhat silly. (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, School Rumble and Case Closed are in shonen magazines after all)

  • It's mainstream for anime. There are niche anime, which only a few people like, and mainstream anime, which comes on in the West and everyone's heard of. For instance, Kannagi and Kannazuki no Miko are a lot less mainstream then Naruto and Bleach. In between the two is stuff like Lucky Star, Haruhi (more mainstream), and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

I'd have to agree, as typical shonen is the only thing that's promoted and comes on TV. And are you saying that DBZ isn't shonen?

  • Calling anything anime mainstream seems odd to me but ok.

Anyway, someone was complaining that typical shonen was the only thing popular in America (as he was giving the examples of Bleach, DBZ and Naruto) and Death Note is certainly not typical shonen. Shonen is incorrectly used for the genre of DBZ etc instead of the demographic but I can't think of a better name for the genre outside of ripping off the video game genre action adventure.

  • What shonen often is is not what all shonen is. Those are just the ultra-mainstream shonen you see in the west.

  • yes but I meant what shonen often is. You know, the action filled, Naruto and One Piece and DBZ etc etc type of anime.

  • Uh, Death Note IS shonen. I mean, the fact that it was serialized in SHONEN Jump must mean something to you.

  • in unrelated news, I hope this works like Smash Bros. Dojo. Just for the lulz.
