I remember this footage very well. It was used in a lot of the volcano films back in the 70's. I sure wouldn't want to wake up to something like that going on.

Well, you might, but people here don't live in constant fear of volcanoes.

There are 3 volcanoes within a 26 km radius of me..
OH MAH GAAAAHD, IAM SO SCAAARRD
No, actually of these three the last major eruption was in 1341.
What did the vikings do? They said: Oh.. An eruption. How nice!- And then they kept on doing whatever they were already doing.. Like drying fish or something.

I saw a documentary of Iceland where they showed an area where lava and ice got toghether.

Which is that area's name?

yeah it is...i climbed eldfjell in october on a geology trip to iceland :) its amaing that the ground at the top is still warm from this eruption. its very surreal.
