No, he didn't come up with it. The Arch Angels (WOO ARCH ANGELS!) were writing on the AI boards and on forums for David to put his hand over his heart hoping he would read it, and he found out about it so now he's done it several times (:

Cinrisa,yeah, touching his heart is his sign to acknowledge the fans. A bunch of people worked on coming up with a sign to use, on the AI forums and had settled on that. : ), Ever since his 'Angels' performance, he's done it several times.♥

Frankly, David Cook needs Archie to keep the audience interested. I don't think Cook has the charisma necessary to stand alone in the spotlight. Archie oozes stardom and when he sings, the world stops to listen and enjoy.
