Grumpy Jii-san's been watching cartoons for way too long. After re-watching a return of a favorite, he's going to chat about it.

This time, the narration is shot on Arizona's Signal Mountain.

You can find a transcript of these remarks here:

  • You must either have a few years of Army training under your belt, or a lot of passion for the Air Force, to point out pilot jargon--that one 'flew' right over my head! ^_^

Also:...is it just me, or does Gotoh sound like Morgan Freeman?

  • The pilot chatter stuck with me because I'd heard it many times form the original Japanese laserdisc, and the original has that chatter in English and authentic. So when I first heard USMC's dub, it immediately struck me that they couldn't translate English to English. Bandai's re-dub restored the original jargon, and is generally more faithful to the original script and better acted.

  • I saw the first movie last week, it wasnt so good to me...

    Should i see the second?

  • one of the best animated movie and i love the political theme of the movie.

  • It's so depressive that Oshii's films have completly degraded into nothing but long philosophical babbling these days.

He has forgotten that first and formeost purpose of movies are meant to entertain. If the movie fails to entertain the audience to at least some degree, whatever deep philosophical points you tried to convey would fail to reach across. Prime example would be his latest work, Sky Crawlers.

I'll have to say that his whole philo-preachy style got all started with Patlabor 2.
