Scrooge (Alastair Sim) #1

In my opinion the best version of this classic tale, featuring a galaxy of British stars in early roles.

Scrooge is actually two roles - before & after the spirits.
Alistair Sim is the only actor to play both roles to perfection.

This is the best Christmas Carol ever made.
Death to anyone who 'colourises' it !

''Misguided ignorance''... what other kind of ignorance is there?

@SwitchFoot2007 misguided, meaning unintentionally wrong (as opposed to willful ignorance, which applies to situations where someone consciously refuses to recognize a truth). I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. "Misguided" generally connotes lack of deliberateness, though maybe 'unintentional' would have been a better word.

You know nothing.

Everything Dickens wrote was a cry for people to for awareness of the poor and the issues affecting them.

Is it so "radical" to say that there are people like Scrooge who see poor people only as a drain on society?

I challenge you to read the Annotated Christmas Carol and you'll see how closely linked the original writing is to the issues of the day.

My main problem is with you randomly equating a conservative with Scrooge. Would you give aid to a poor conservative? Did you know that there are many rich, stingy progressives? Your false platitudinous idea of conservatives being like scrooge because they oppose government redistribution(control) is ridiculous. That you moralistically take a cheap shot at them on Christmas movie is all the more ridiculous. But you're never wrong; you're political religion makes you perfect (not).

I agree, A Christmas Carol completely transcends politics. It's about the bigger picture of what it is to be human, and what makes a person's life wasted or worthwhile. Greed, selfishness, redemption... you'll find these traits and themes regardless of a person's politics. P.S. I love this version, thanks for uploading.

Aside from that, A Christmas Carol was also a rebuke of the Puritan idea that celebrated Christmas was wasteful and idolatrous. That influence was strong in England at the time.

Few people realize that Ebenezer Scrooge is very real.

He's like the stubborn conservative businessman who looks at unemployed people and asks "Why don't they just look in the help wanted section?"

Keep the Christmas spirit to keep them out.

Why not?

Dickens was making a political statement by writing this.
